Apps
The Mail App is River's email client. It treats every email as a first-class entity, lets the AI triage and draft on your behalf, and unifies multiple accounts in one inbox.
It pairs with the Gmail integration (and others as they come online) to give you the most powerful inbox you've ever used.
What it gives you#
- Unified inbox — all connected accounts in one stream, with per-account filters
- AI triage — every email is classified (action required, awareness, FYI) and labeled automatically
- Smart folders — saved searches that stay live (e.g., "Investors", "Needs reply today")
- Conversation view — full thread context with attachments as entities
- One-click drafts — "Draft reply" produces a high-quality response in your voice
- Inbox Triage Agents — let an Agent run continuously and pre-process new mail
- Send from anywhere — compose from SpaceChat, from a Workflow, or from the Mail App directly
Triage workflow#
A common Mail workflow:
- Open Mail at the start of the day
- The Inbox Triage Agent has already classified overnight mail
- The "Action required" folder shows the 5–10 things that actually need you
- For each, click "Draft reply" — get a high-quality first pass
- Tweak, send. Most replies take 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes
Smart folders#
Smart folders are saved queries that update live. Examples:
- Investors — emails from VCs you're tracking
- Customers > $50K ARR — high-value account threads
- Last week — anything received in the last 7 days
- Awaiting my reply — threads you haven't responded to
Smart folders are entities themselves. You can share one with a teammate or pin it to a Space.
Composition#
Compose from anywhere:
- Mail App's compose button — full editor with attachments and signatures
- SpaceChat — "draft an email to Maya about Friday's launch" → review → send
- Workflows — emails as part of a larger automated process
- Agents — Inbox Triage Agents drafting replies overnight
All sends are logged in Activity and the Job record.
Multi-account#
Connect personal, work, and shared inboxes. The Mail App shows them in a unified stream with per-account filters. The AI knows which account each email belongs to and treats them with the appropriate voice.
Mail entities and edges#
Each email is an Email entity. Threads are EmailThread entities. Attachments become their own File, PDF, or Image entities. Mentions of contacts auto-link to your Contact graph.
This is what lets the AI reason across your work: an email from a customer is connected to that customer's deal, that customer's docs, and that customer's history — without any manual linking.
Tips#
- Build an Inbox Triage Agent on day one (see Building an Agent). It transforms how email feels.
- Configure Agents to draft only, not send, until you've watched a week of drafts.
- Use Smart Folders to make the inbox feel small even when it isn't.
