User Profile

Your User Profile in River captures who you are, how you work, and the personalization the AI uses to tailor its behavior.

What's in your profile#

• Identity — name, headshot, time zone, work hours
• Voice & style — examples of how you write (used by AI when drafting in your voice)
• Roles & responsibilities — your job, what you care about, who your stakeholders are
• Preferences — keyboard shortcuts, theme, AI defaults
• Connected accounts — which Gmail / Calendar / etc. accounts are yours

Why personalization matters#

Two reasons. First, the AI is dramatically better at drafting in your voice when it has examples. A few weeks of writing inside River is plenty; you can also paste in references explicitly.

Second, when the AI is making judgments — "is this email important?" — it uses your profile to decide. Your roles, your priorities, your stakeholders are all signal.

System.UserProfile#

Under the hood, your profile is a System.UserProfile entity that the AI reads on every conversation. You can edit it directly (it's an entity like any other) — useful for power users who want fine control.

Tips#

• Add explicit examples to "voice & style" in your first week. The improvement is dramatic.
• Update "roles & responsibilities" when your job changes — the AI uses it heavily for prioritization.
• Set your work hours so Schedules and Notifications respect them.
