Slack

The Slack integration connects your Slack workspace as a tool-based integration. The AI can search, post, and react in Slack on your behalf.

What it does#

• Search Slack — find messages, threads, and files across all the channels you have access to
• Post messages — send to channels or DMs, including from Agents and Workflows
• Notification mirroring — pipe River notifications to a chosen Slack channel
• Cross-reference — Slack messages mentioned in River automatically become referenceable entities

Setup#

1. Open Settings → Integrations → Slack
2. Click Connect Slack and approve the workspace
3. Choose which channels to make available to the AI (default: all you can access)
4. Optionally set a "River notifications" channel for system notifications

Common patterns#

• Standup helper — runs every morning, reads yesterday's #engineering activity, drafts a standup summary, posts to the team channel.
• Inbox-to-Slack — when an email from a major customer arrives, posts a heads-up to #customer-success.
• Job notification mirror — long-running Jobs post a single message when they finish, with a link back to River.
• Slack-as-source — search Slack from SpaceChat: "what did Diego say about the launch in Slack last week?"

Privacy & scope#

• Slack connection respects your existing channel access — the AI can only see what you can see
• DM access is opt-in (off by default)
• You can disable specific channels from being readable by the AI per Dataspace
• Disconnect at any time; nothing is retained

Tips#

• The "post a heads-up to Slack" pattern is the easiest way to make an Agent feel real to the rest of your team.
• Don't overdo notification mirroring — pick a single low-traffic channel and route only the highest-priority Job results to it.
