Browser Extension

The River Browser Extension turns any browser tab into a capture surface. Save full pages, selections, screenshots, and YouTube transcripts straight into your workspace as entities.

It's the easiest way to start building a knowledge base from the open web.

What it captures#

  • Full pages — saved as a Doc entity with full text and metadata
  • Selections — saved as a Note (with the source link)
  • Screenshots — saved as Image entities
  • YouTube videos — saved as Transcript entities (auto-transcribed if no captions exist)
  • PDFs in the browser — saved as PDF entities with text extraction
  • Tweets and social posts — saved with author, date, and content

Setup#

  1. Install the River Browser Extension from the Chrome Web Store (works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and any Chromium browser).
  2. Sign in with your River account.
  3. Pick a default destination Group in your Dataspace.

That's it. From any tab, click the River extension icon (or press the keyboard shortcut) to capture.

How capture works#

  1. Click the extension icon on any page.
  2. Pick what to capture (full page, selection, screenshot).
  3. Pick where it lands (your default Group, or override).
  4. Optionally add a note or tag.
  5. Click Save. The entity exists in your workspace within seconds.

You can keep working in the browser; the entity is now searchable, attachable, and visible to AI.

Common patterns#

  • Research dump — capture every interesting article you read this week into a single Group, then ask SpaceChat to synthesize them.
  • Competitor watch — clip relevant news into a /Competitors Group; an Agent runs weekly to summarize what changed.
  • Recipe / reading list — personal Dataspace, single Group, low effort.
  • Twitter/X archive — clip tweets you want to remember; cross-link to people in your Contacts.

Tips#

  • Bind a keyboard shortcut to the extension (right-click the icon → Manage extensions → Shortcuts).
  • For YouTube, capture before you watch — the transcript is ready by the time you finish.
  • Combine with Drive or Notion sync for a true knowledge layer that spans the open web and your shared folders.
