Notes
The Notes App is for quick capture and long-form thinking. It's the place to dump ideas, draft thoughts, scratch out plans, and write things you'll come back to later.
Every note is a first-class entity in your Dataspace. It's searchable, linkable, AI-readable, and yours forever.
Capture in two seconds#
Press the Quick Note shortcut from anywhere in River. A floating panel opens. Type, paste, dictate. Close. The note is saved in your Dataspace's default Notes Group.
You can also:
- Right-click any selection in any App → "Save to Notes"
- Use the Browser Extension to clip web content as a Note
- Drop a transcript snippet, a PDF excerpt, or a screenshot into Notes
Long-form#
For deeper notes — meeting notes, weekly journals, project research — Notes also supports rich formatting: headings, lists, code blocks, links, embeds, images, math.
Each Note is a Y.js document, so you can co-edit in real time with teammates or have an Agent write into the note while you read.
Notes vs. Pages vs. Docs#
These three are easy to confuse.

When in doubt, start in Notes. Promote to Pages or Docs later if it deserves more structure.
What AI can do with Notes#
- Search across every note instantly
- Synthesize a week of notes into a recap
- Promote a draft Note to a polished Page or Doc
- Extract tasks, decisions, or open questions from your notes
Tips#
- Capture without organizing. Notes is a stream; let search be the filing system.
- Use a single recurring "Daily Notes" Note (or one per day) — it's the simplest journal pattern.
- The AI is at its best when you've been writing notes for a while. Even a week of capture changes how SpaceChat answers questions.
